CT DMV WARNS RESIDENTS ABOUT TEXT MESSAGE/PHONE CALL SCAM

WETHERSFIELD – The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is warning residents about a scam text message or phone call threatening penalties for unpaid traffic violations or toll bills.

“DMV does not contact driver license holders or vehicle owners by text message or phone call regarding outstanding issues,” DMV Commissioner Tony Guerrera said.  “Anyone receiving these messages should not click on a link and delete the message.”

DMV received numerous reports today of the fake message, which is the latest in a series that has been reported throughout the United States.   The latest message requires action be taken by June 5 and states possible consequences including the suspension of a motor vehicle registration.
